REACH

REACH is a comprehensive, innovative out-of-school dropout prevention program designed to support educational pathways for Chelsea Public School (CPS) high school students. The program focuses on college and career readiness, students' academic and career preparation, social and emotional learning, and provides mental health support.

 

General Duties: 

REACH student leaders will serve as Assistant Group Leaders, Assistant Administrators, and Peer Tutors.

  • Be prepared to engage with students and be present during classroom activities
  • Assist in preparing the start of all in-person and or virtual meetings, conducting icebreakers, participating in project-based learning activities, and all virtual programming.
  • Upholds the standard group leaders expect in their respective classes
  • Assist Group Leaders in preparing for activities, recruiting, maintaining engagement, and assisting youth in navigating virtual programs/workshops.
  • Take part in the planning committee, focusing on summer and fall REACH planning and what program activities will look like with youth voices.
  • Fully participate in program activities and serve as a role model and leader.
  • Provides administrative support to the administrative team, which includes scheduling meetings, material preparation, and data entry.
  • Manages Google Calendar and Google Classroom schedules
  • Maintains accurate data regarding students’ attendance, registration, and enrollment in the REACH after-school program
  • Provides support with social media posts and correspondences.
  • Assists with the scheduling and coordinating of REACH events, including outreach to students and families and school administration and faculty.
  • Assists with coordinating fundraising events
  • Keep track of daily records and complete weekly reports, which include detailed information about tutoring sessions
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality about academic progress and/ or personal information concerning students.
  • Fully participate in program activities and serve as a role model and leader.

Student leaders will

  • Complete the required 2 hours of tutoring training
  • Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions and notify, Tania Baez if a session must be canceled
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing any notes, handouts, and/or bookwork
  • Help students set academic and personal goals, and monitor progress towards those goals
  • Keep track of daily records and complete weekly reports which include detailed information of tutoring sessions
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality about academic progress and/ or personal information concerning students.
  • Fully participate in program activities and serve as a role model and leader

 Note: These are minimum requirements. REACH Supervisor Staff may expand upon any of these duties as they see fit, but must meet these daily requirements.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be an CHS student in good standing: maintain grades and behaviors at CHS, reflective of what a CHS student mentor should possess

  • Must be able to arrive travel to assigned location via walk, ride or bus

  • Must act as a role model and mentor to students

  • Can provide proof of citizenship, residency, or employment authorization

Days/Times: 

Arrive on time to scheduled shifts; Monday to Thursday from 2:30pm-5pm (up to 10 hours a week)


Compensation: $15.75/hour (student worker rate)

 

Reports To: Alec Lapan, Coordinator of Extended Learning and the REACH Supervisors
