Description

Title: Stipend - District Navigators (CPS) (Internal Only) (SY24-25)

Objective: CPS Navigators are caring adults who form strong, trusting, and nonjudgmental relationships with students and, ideally, their families, developing an understanding of each child’s unique strengths, needs, and interests. By working closely with students and their families, Navigators ensure that every student is known by their Name, Strength, and Story, and provide the support necessary to help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Navigators maintain a caseload of 10 children, documenting and tracking progress according to the established data collection plan. As relationship builders, Navigators forge partnerships within the Chelsea Public Schools ecosystem to align community resources that address students' needs, helping them develop the skills and confidence required to achieve their goals. Navigators also work closely with the Officer for Student Success Planning, school administration, and their professional colleagues to ensure that both academic and non-academic supports are in place to create a community where every student can thrive.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building and Advocacy: Develop and nurture trusting and non judgemental relationships with each student on their caseload.  Facilitate communication and relationship-building with faculty, staff, students, and other key stakeholders to create a success team of caring adults and community resources around each student. Serve as a champion for students and their families regarding academic, social, and familial concerns.
  • Check-Ins and Communication: Complete regular check-ins with students, prioritizing face-to-face meetings at school or home. When in-person meetings are not possible, use appropriate tools like text messages, emails, or video calls to maintain communication and support.
  • Documentation and Progress Tracking: Document and track progress based on one-on-one meetings, including attendance, behavior, academics, referrals, interventions, and any additional resources accessed, to ensure each student is progressing toward their success goals.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Participate actively as a member of the Navigator pilot team, attending professional development and supervision with the Officer for Student Success Planning. Engage in relevant school-based events and initiatives to ensure a community-centered approach to programming.
  • Caring Adult Support: Serve as a guide and caring adult for students and their success teams, sharing relevant information and making critical connections that align with the student’s goals and aspirations. Support instructional staff by sharing insights gained through the Navigator role.
